If you are in an adult ballet class as a beginner or a returning dancer, every exercise you do will prepare you for getting into pointe shoes, if that is your goal. Every ballet barre exercise, whether focused on the feet or not, will get you ready for pointe shoes. The men in ballet can benefit from this viewpoint, as special foot exercises for pointe strengthen, and refine control. This will increase technical accuracy in allegro (jumps) and help prevent dance injuries.
Starting with your demi and grand plies, your use of correct ballet turnout, core muscles, and ease of the upper back, head and arm movements, all means a great deal about everything else you will do in dance class. If you can do this simple (but not easy!) warm up exercise correctly, to YOUR best ability, you will probably be able to do the entire ballet class with the same control. Someday, if not today.
Why Take Up Ballet As Adult? What Dancewear Will You need?
As a young child, it is very likely that at some point or another you entertained the notion of becoming a prima ballerina. Hair in a bun, pink tutu, shiny satin toe shoes- that vision was all very magical and appealing, and as a child it was the sort of dream that was healthy and enchanting to chase. As an adult, however, the dream of becoming a prima ballerina might not only seem near impossible, it might even seem a little ridiculous. Surely as an adult you know better than to entertain such a fanciful dream, right?
Well that is true to an extent, but ballet classes aren’t just for children dreaming of becoming prima ballerinas. Adult ballet classes are becoming increasingly popular, as both dance studios and exercise studios see the potential benefits of adult ballet classes.

Question by Que sera, sera.: What to wear to an adult ballet class?
I have a friend who recently convinced me to get back into ballet. I did ballet until I was 11 and then had to stop. I loved it so much and have been thinking about going back for years, and a friend of mine finally convinced me that I should do it. I signed up for classes (for people aged 18-25) , but there is no dress code listed on the studio website, except for the little girls. Adult classes aren’t even listed on the website, I guess it’s sort of kept quiet haha.
Anyhow, I don’t want to show up on the first day extremely over dressed and looking like a goof.
What should I wear?
