Question by Letka E: I’m teaching a ballet class for 4 and 5 year old girls? got any ideas for me?

One tip is to play Simon says. you tell them, “Simon says do a pirouette.” and they copy. but if you don’t say Simon Say’s and they copy their out. this turns learning into a game. also, remember that these girls are really young and that they get tired really easily. don’t get frustrated if they take to many breaks or aren’t listening to you. hope it helps!

Ideas for a beginner ballet class?

Question by : Ideas for a beginner ballet class?
I am teaching a beginner ballet class this fall and wanted to do a themed/character type ballet dance as opposed to the typical instrumental type dance. The age is 6-8 year old. One idea I have is an theme using Tomorrow or maybe a mix of songs. Does anyone have any other ideas of songs or themes?! Thanks!

Answer:
Disney princess theme, have a medley of songs (one major song for each princess). Split the girls (or boys) into however many groups that will correspond with the number of princesses, then have each group do a themed combo for their song in theme costumes (I recommend mixing it up, using Mulan, Arial, Princess and the frog, Beauty and the Beast rather than princess that will be hard to tell apart). If you have boys, you could use “I’ll make a man out of you” form Mulan or “Gaston” from Beauty and the Beast, or another one of the boy’s songs, within the theme.
